Acupuncture is known to enhance and regulate immune function, specifically for cancer treatment during radiation therapy. As part of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) Acupuncture is based on the belief that qi (vital energy) flows through the body along a network of paths, called meridians. As a complementary therapy for cancer patients, acupuncture is a treatment given in addition to conventional (standard) therapy.

Here at Serendipity Integrative Health Clinic we focus on complementary cancer treatment and utilizing Acupuncture as a modality to assist our patients in strengthening their immune system.

  • Anxiety from cancer treatment may be reduced from acupuncture treatment.
  • Pain from cancer treatment and chemotherapy may be reduced from acupuncture treatment
  • Fatigue (a common symptom of radiation therapy) may greatly be reduced and energy increased through acupuncture treatment
  • Depression may be reduced and relaxation increased through acupuncture treatment
  • Symptoms such as insomnia, poor appetite, dry mouth, hot flashes, constipation, diarrhea and nerve problems may be reduced through regular acupuncture treatment.

* Patients may have a needling feeling during acupuncture, known as de qi sensation, making them feel heaviness, numbness, or tingling.

Acupuncture and Cancer Care

The Immune System – Ancient Chinese techniques have been developed to enhance the immune system. However, CM views the body from a different view of what the immune systems is. TCM views a dynamic system of interrelated parts working together as a whole. When this system is working in a way of harmony, balanced for the individual is then considered to be healthy.

Post Chemotherapy, Radiation and Acupuncture: Acupuncture may assist with decreasing symptoms of nausea and vomiting. Also, radiation heat within the body may be released through Acupuncture treatment.
