WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is one of many ancient therapies based on the understanding that the body is composed of life energy (Qi or Chi) which travels through energy superhighways called channels. By stimulating these channels energy flows unobstructed and health is achieved. These channels can be stimulated by special exercises such as taiji, qigong, or meditation. In the clinic, this is achieved by acupressure, massage, light, heat, magnet, medical qigong, or acupuncture. Acupuncture procedure includes the use of fine thin sterile disposable needle to gently stimulate specific acupuncture points along the channels. Channels and points all have specific functions and when not working correctly disharmonies will follow. By careful evaluation of the channels’ health status, a trained acupuncturist is able to trace signs and symptoms back to specific pattern of disharmonies. Once reaching a diagnoses, a customized selection of acupuncture points are selected. This point prescription is then stimulated by different means as mentioned above: acupressure, massage, light, heat, magnet, medical qigong, or acupuncture.

HOW SAFE AND EFFECTIVE IS ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is very safe and effective. Accidents from needle stick injuries are so uncommon, especially when performed by licensed acupuncturist. Occasionally small bruises from needle do happen but are often inconsequential. In majority of cases, people do overcome the initial needle phobia after only one session.

Acupuncture is so effective and has been embraced by the world since ancient times. People have enjoyed its benefits for more than 2 thousand years.

Most people generally experience deep relaxation, pain reduction, improved flexibility and joint mobility, better sleep, increased energy, mental function, and an overall feeling of wellbeing. People get sick less often, which is a sign that the immune system is stronger. Our immune system is crucial for diseases such as cancer. It does take the whole body approach to get the immune system back online, and acupuncture can be a great complement to conventional treatments.

WHAT DOES AN ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT FEEL LIKE

Everybody experiences acupuncture differently. Some don’t feel a thing. Others feel euphoric. There can be a wide range of sensations such as: feeling deeply relaxed, light, sleepy, tingling, warm, cool, wave of energy passing through, or coming and going of pain sensations. Other may also feel emotional, like their feelings were coming up and out of their chest.
